Blended Whisky

The production of blended whisky is very much like conducting an orchestra, although tailcoat and baton are optional. You take whiskies from multiple distilleries and get them all harmonising together, so the total is greater than the sum of its parts. This is a style that is utilised across the globe but Japanese Blended whisky has gained greater prominence than blends from anywhere else, except perhaps Scotland. The major difference between Japanese and Blended Scotch is that, where Scottish distilleries regularly sell whisky between each other, there is not the same collaboration in Japan. Most blended whisky in Japan is made from blends of distilleries owned by the same company. Japanese blends are deliberately similar in style to Scotch yet, they are often slightly more soft and delicate. Get blending gang, after all, whisky is better with friends!
