Oddbins Whisky Collection

If you’ve wandered into one of our shops, you will know that we take our whisky seriously. We love the smooth caramel notes of Speyside, the nutty flavours of Highland and the peaty character of Islay. In fact, just like wine, whisky holds a wealth of different flavours and aromas. You’ll find green apple notes in Glengoyne 10 Year Old, tropical hints in Balblair 2005, and smooth dark chocolate nuances in Bowmore 15 Year Old… Oh, we’re salivating just thinking about it. Though unlike wine, whisky is not primarily a food accompaniment – but a great digestif. And it is of course splendid in a Manhattan or Old-Fashioned!

It’s not only we at Oddbins who love whisky – it’s a worldwide love fest. From Canada to Japan, whisky is produced. Japan’s Nikka from the Barrel is not only handsome on the eye (designed to look like a cologne bottle), but also a sheer, smooth, banana-laden treat. And even Sweden has got in on the fun: let us present Mackmyra, Sweden’s first whisky. And it’s absolutely yummy.

Yes, there’s a whole world of fermented grain mash goodness out there. Your first stop? Oddbins!

  1. Ancnoc Cutter Highland Single Malt Whisky 70cl

AnCnoc Cutter - Highland Single Malt Whisky

    £55.00

    £55.00

This whisky takes its name from the hand tool used to cut peat from less wet, shallower bogs. This means the peat it reveals is drier and therefore more easily burnt producing a whisky that has a medium-heavy smokiness. Pale yellow in appearance, the nose has an initially thick and oily smoke structure, reveals a sharper, more medicinal phenolic layer, a piercing burst of fruitiness and an intense finish. The nose is intense and unforgettable. On the palate, leather and spicy vanilla abound, together with notes of pink grapefruit and ripe orchard fruits. A kaleidoscope of spicy and peaty notes culminate with a juicy burst and call for another sip.

    £36.00

    £36.00

A beautiful burnished gold colour, the maturity that shows through comes from the American barrels and the spicy creamy nose from the old style smaller casks. The rich softness combines with just enough earthy peat smoke to avoid being overpowering. On the palate the full rich flavours burst and fill the mouth with a creamy peat tang and a touch of soft vanilla. The full-bodied smoothness can be best appreciated at bottling strength but, with a touch of water, the full whisky's complexity can be enjoyed.

    £47.50

Based on the idyllic coast of the Dornoch Firth, Balblair has been making whisky since 1790 and is unique in that, instead of ageing for set periods of time, Distillery Manager John MacDonald selects whiskies when he deems them to be ready, and so they are labelled with the year in which the whisky was laid down. The American oak and ex-bourbon barrels used to age the 2005 maturation impart toffee, leather and vanilla notes, which are punctuated with flavours of apricots, oranges and spice.
