Gamay

Our friend Gamay is a classic wall flower. She rarely strays far from her native Beaujolais, where she produces red wine that is delicate in flavour, colour and alcohol, with good acidity. She had quite a heyday under the guise of the early-release Beaujolais Nouveau although, really, it’s “least said soonest mended” with that one... Anyway! Nowadays, and especially when she strays to the region’s more southerly appellations, such as Morgon, she can be quite bold and is becoming a little more serious. Apart from a very low-key love affair with the Pinot Noir, when she’s in Burgundy’s Mâcconais region, she’s a happy singleton.
