Chenin Blanc

Chenin Blanc is difficult character to pin down and is famously chameleon-like. Catch it in the Loire Valley and it’ll lurch from richly honeyed yet minerally dessert wines (Quarts de Chaume, Bonnezeaux etc.) to some of the world’s most tart wines (Savennières) and sparkling wine too (Crémant de Loire). That’s not even mentioning South Africa, where it is quite ubiquitous and where they are expert at coaxing out its floral, citric and fresh hay flavours. Unsurprisingly, this rolling stone is usually single, although it quite likes buddying up with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Steeped in exciting history, this wine is like a really good Brontë novel, or maybe a Dan Brown. Dating way back...
