Syrah is a piquant, free-spirited, polyamorous grape that, whilst totally at ease in its own company, just loves the company of other grapes, in particular, Grenache and Mourvèdre. These three have fun wherever they go and have even earned themselves the nickname SGM (or GSM if Grenache fancies the limelight). Syrah has thick skin, so loves basking in the Australian sun, where they fondly call him Shiraz and where he becomes pretty loud and boisterous. Likewise, he likes the heat of the northern Rhône valley, where, bar the odd dalliance with whites like Viognier, he likes to be alone as a bit of a respite from his hedonistic lifestyle, and absorb the garrigue scents of his home.
