The Oddbins Take

In the Middle Ages, the Château of Cantemerle, seat of the jurisdiction of the same name, bordered the Garonne River and made up part of the line of fortifications that defended the banks of the Médoc region from Naval attack.

Perhaps it was because of the Lords of Cantemerle’s excellent defence, that those sneaky English forgoed the invasion and just took over Bordeaux by marrying off Henry II to Eleanor of Aquitaine! Although citizens of Bordeaux were rather miffed by this back-door occupation, it did prompt British obsession with Claret that has now lasted 900 years, so who really had the last laugh?

Today, the occupants of Château Cantemerle have a far more significant role; defending us all from bland and uninspiring wine! Take one sip of this Grand Cru Classe, and we’re sure you’ll agree Château Cantemerle have been diligent in this task, bottling a wine with incredible balance between refreshing dark fruit notes and complex spicy aromatics.
