Although it is thin-skinned and temperamental in the vineyard, Malbec is a unique, strong character, black as the night, juicy and with real backbone. It has a turbulent love life: usually considered as a blending grape in its native France, particularly in Bordeaux – although enjoying some serious limelight in Cahors - it has gone on to truly capture the heart of Argentina. It is here, thousands of miles away from home, and especially in the high mountains, that it softens up and has become the most-adored grape going. In fact they have gone official and Malbec is now known as Argentina’s national grape. Aww.
