Intense aromas with outstanding notes of redcurrants, raspberries, wild blackberries and ripe red plums. These create a complex bouquet alongside the balsamic notes from the barrel: vanilla, cloves, coffee, caramel and brioche. Elegant, vibrant and well-balanced on the palate, with smooth, sweet tannins and a savoury character on the finish. The long maturation has created a complexity and elegance that can be enjoyed now, but the wine has a long life ahead.
Founded in 1890, La Rioja Alta is a bastion of Spanish viticulture and have been producing award-winning wines for more than a century. Even now, they continue to innovate and explore the dynamic region of Rioja with their roots firmly planted into traditional winemaking. They own all of their own vineyards, which are all hand-harvested. For the ageing of their Riojas, they only use American oak barriques, which are made and toasted in-house. One of the key factors of their traditional style is that the reds are racked by hand and by candlelight every six months.
