Velvety soft, with pure, concentrated red fruits, balanced by the sumptuously leathery notes you'd expect from a Rioja of this pedigree. If you are going for a wine to drink in velvet slippers whilst blasting Beethoven and generally lording it up, this is that wine.
Founded in 1890, La Rioja Alta is continues to uphold its founding principle of crafting and ageing high quality wines and they have enormous respect for their history.
Brick red in colour, with iodine hints, it has intense, complex aromas of spices and minty chocolate on a background of plums, raisins and sugared fruit. On the palate it is fantastically well-balanced, with a good structure and highly polished, silky and elegant tannins. It has a complex after-taste with a gentle but very long-lasting finish.
