We understand that wines such as this are labelled Petit Chablis because the grapes are grown just outside Chablis proper, despite the wines being made under many similar conditions as regular Chablis. When approaching Maison Dousset Petit Chablis however, the name almost feels ironic, like Little John, chief lieutenant of the Band of Merry Men, who was famously 7-feet-tall and could bench press a Ford Cortina. This is because, despite being called ‘petit,’ the wine has a grande aromatic bouquet of crisp citrus fruit, white peach and a saline minerality. On the palate, the wine is far from small with a beautifully rounded mouthfeel courtesy of extended lees contact that adds a buttery, toasty complexity to this wine. It may be petit in name but it's far from petit in nature!
