A superb South African Viognier that delivers a smoky wild honey which gives way to tangerine and musk melon on the nose. The taste is characterised by a tangy acidity that lasts to the very end, never letting the sweetness become cloying.
The first impressions are of grilled pineapple drizzled with lemon and honey. As one gets used to these flavours, secondary notes of Frangipane paste, golden sultanas, Ruby grapefruit topped with brown sugar and grilled start to appear. The final impression is of a Christmas mince pie with a glass of Drambuie. Notes of crisp buttery pastry and candied citrus peel supported to the end by a racy acidity.
As the farm is surrounded by water on four sides the noble rot forms quite readily. Grapes are hand harvested when they are almost raison like. The farm was bought in 2003 and the vines were planted in 2005. The first wine was crafted in 2010. The first NLH was made in 2011. The farm was granted Estate status in 2020 after the winery was completed. As non interventionalist as possible, let the grapes speak for themselves...
