The Oddbins Take

As far as stereotypes go America is renowned for many things, but subtlety isn't one of them. A delicate duck confit seems pointless when you can be fed fried chicken from a bucket for a measly $10. Why try to decipher the nuance of a Jean-Luc Godard picture when you could watch Michael Bay replace plot structure with car explosions?

For some time, American wine had the same reputation; fully-loaded Cabs & super-sized Chardonnays dominated the market. However, wines such as Domaine de la Cote Sta Rita Hills undermine this stereotype.
An intense yet nuanced Pinot Noir, this Californian red offers classic rhubarb and cherry flavours; earth and game character; distinctly savoury on the palate with a long finish. With refreshing acidity and a lovely salty edge, this Pinot has the grace and subtly of a 60s French director. You're welcome to pair it with over-sized hamburgers though; it's dangerous to change too much too quickly.
