The Oddbins Take

The Niagara Peninsula has long attracted a vast number of eager visitors from around the globe. Many come here to travel on the ‘Maid of the Mist,’ and experience a different level of damp for 4 straight hours. While a considerable number of people also pass through to enlist in the Beaver Wars; the life expectancy isn’t great but boy that pelt money is hard to ignore.

However, over the last 30 years a new type of tourist has travelled to Niagara, and dare we say, for a better reason than fur trapping! The Niagara Peninsula has garnered a reputation for excellent quality, cool climate wine production and many consider Domaine Tawse the jewel in this Canadian crown. Their Pinot Noir is ripe yet desirably nuanced, with well-defined aromas of black cherry, plums and redcurrants that intermingle with more savoury notes of mushroom, baking spices and smoked cedar. All of which continue onto to the well-structured palate.

We could endure a trip on the Maid of the Mist, if a bottle of this was waiting for us on the shore!
