They Say

Fifty Pounds Gin is a handcrafted, small-batch London Dry Gin that takes its name from the Gin Act levy of 1796 – aimed at limiting production of home-distillation. Only two distillers agreed to pay this precipitous fee and a family of distillers named their gin recipe Fifty Pounds in ironic tribute.

Thames Distillers have re-discovered this particularly smooth recipe, which involves quadruple distillation of grain spirit and a botanical selection that creates a heady, juniper-led, pure and rich gin.

We Say

From the bottle to the method and the botanicals used, Fifty Pounds Gin is a brilliant tribute to London’s fascinating gin history.

Alter Ego: Ruth from Victorian Farm; a zeal for the past has led this zany, nostalgic character firmly down memory lane and the result is fascinating. This is a well-turned out, heady evocation of the past that is sweetly fragrant even if the gritty era it harks back to was not!
