The Oddbins Take

Given mighty oak trees grow from tiny acorns it's unsurprising that Swartland winemaker Jurgen decided to see what happened when he planted vines in oak leaf soil. Surely, he thought, some of that magnificent influence would rub off on the grapes. Just as growing up around brainy people can help a kid be clever.

His Chenin Blanc was just the thing. Plenty of fruit flavour, adaptable, and not too fussy. The perfect varietal with which to test a theory. Sure enough, the ensuant wine was mighty good, and happily it didn't taste like acorns. In fact, it was brimming with crunchy, green apple flavours. Really quite a smart result.
