The Oddbins Take

We're going to suggest something a little controversial here - this red wine is best served slightly chilled. Yes, you absolutely read that right! Although not all styles of red wine will work chilled, much lighter, fruit-driven styles can make a great alternative to white and rosé in the warmer months.

Le Meurger Coteaux Bourguignons is a great example of this. With bright and fresh aromas of strawberry and raspberry followed by a light to medium bodied palate of strawberry and hints of blackcurrant, and a light sweet orange finish. Lively acidity gives the wine a refreshing finish.

Classic French Duo - Wine Gift Set

    As low as: £27.25

At Oddbins we love unusual parcels, sourced from the furthest flung frontiers of the wine world. In fact, you may have noticed that 'odd' features in our name - nominative determinism at its finest! However, sometimes only classic wines will do; such as buying a gift for your father-in-law who unironically wears tweed and after 12 years of marriage to his child still requires you call him 'sir'. It is times such as this you want some wine with a well-known appeal and a quality level. Wines like this duo of French Classics that might just prompt your father-in-law to allow you to drop the 'sir' and permit you to call him 'Mr. Bennet.'

A quick glance around one of our shops will illustrate that great wine is made across the globe and, if Elon Musk gets his wish, it probably won't be too long until we're knocking our Mars grown Pinot (we hear the soil gives it an incredibly distinct mineral character). Yet, whatever new wine frontiers are established, whatever new winemaking technique is en vogue, it always comes back to France; whether it's French grape varieties being planted or new world wines drawing comparisons to their French compatriots. For every aspiring oenophile, understanding French wine is a must and this selection of red, white and rose wines is a fine place to start!
