Rugby World Cup Themed Tasting for Shoosmiths LLP, Birmingham
Always pleased to rise to an unusual request we were set with the task of putting together a rugby themed tasting to coincide with the World Cup. England may have fallen at the first hurdle in the game but they came out tops in the tasting in the ‘Fizz Forward Pass’ round with Gusbourne Estate Rosé. We saw Whisky ‘Wingers’ in a Scotch vs. Japan showdown and discovered Romanian and Sicilian reds in an Old World ‘Scrum’. Finishing off the evening wouldn’t have been complete without a wine and rugby quiz complete with ‘up and under’ rugby ball passes..

‘We have used Oddbins Events for client wine and champagne tasting evenings on a number of occasions. The evenings are always thoroughly professional, engaging, educational and well received by our clients. Angela, who has hosted our evenings, has an infectious personality with a spark that clients warm to. She has the ability to strike a rapport with audience instantly making the evening relaxed and fun. I have been particularly impressed with the creativity in building the evenings around a theme when we have required this e.g. for the Rugby World Cup recently. Oddbins never fail to deliver. Great wine and champagne and great service. Thank you and we look forward to welcoming them back very soon’; Vaqas Farooq – , Shoosmiths LLP Partner

Gateley Charity Wine Tasting, Manchester
Probably the best way to spend an evening in the office conference room is to clear off the tables and put out a selection of canapés and a lot of wine. We showcased a snippet of each of our key tasting packages from Champagne and sparkling comparisons in Pol Roger vs. Roederer Quartet, new discoveries like Romanian Feteasca Regala and Portuguese still wine to Old vs. New in a Malbec France vs. Argentina standoff. The winning wine of the evening? The Manz Platonico, the deliciously rich and luxurious Portuguese red chosen by ‘The Palate’ wine tasting completion winner, although an unusual and decadent sparkling Shiraz was a close second!

“A great way to entertain clients and good friends. Effortless to set up, excellent choice of wines and knowledgeable presentation. Great feedback from everyone who was there and a suggestion of holding it weekly which we will give due consideration” Michael Ball, Partner Gateley Plc

“A very interesting and informative - and amusing - evening was had by all.  Angela was clearly very well informed and she presented in a refreshing and entertaining way. We learned a lot about wine tasting generally as well as some interesting facts about the specific wines and years tasted …although the finer details may have leaked away by the end of the evening!” Attendee Paul Heeley
“Learning in a convivial atmosphere, a 'teacher' who made it fun ...and a stoater of a blind wine. I'll take a case of the Manz Platonico, thank you. Also, I'm no longer a wine-tasting virgin.”  Attendee Charles Lauder

Private Gin Tasting Event, Guildford
Oddbins Events visited a small private wine group to show them the nuances of botanicals in a gin and garnish pairing tasting. Looking through the history of gin and its’ many new incarnations our group tried a variety of styles and learned it’s not all ice and a slice of lemon any more.

‘We've had the pleasure of experiencing some wonderful wines in the past year our group has been meeting but felt it was time to catch up with other drinks. As a few of us are partial to a G&T we wanted to learn a bit more. Oddbins provided us with the exact amount of knowledge we wanted, we loved the history aspect and I think we're all going to remember the story of 'Old Tom'! More importantly was the eye opener about the different botanicals, flavours and the way gin is garnished, I don't think any of us will be sticking to just a slice of lemon any more! Many thanks and we look forward to more spirit experiences with Oddbins Events!’ - Rosemary Sheen, Attendee

Private Gin Tasting Event, Guildford
Our ‘Native Lands and New Discoveries’ Tasting for the LBS wine club was held in the private snug of their favourite bar and featured some of our Oddbins favourites; The fruity and intense Becalm Malbec from Argentina, Vinum Old Vine Chenin from South Africa and the winner of the evening – the Mullineux ‘Rhône Blend’ from the Swartland.

‘Angela and Oddbins Events pulled off one of the most professional events we have had to date with the London Business School Wine & Spirits Club. Angela achieved a great balance between making the event fun and sociable while also providing educational elements on how to taste the wines and interesting background on each of them. She was very professional and we loved the way the event was set up with tasting mats, glasses, and paper to take tasting notes with. We are very much looking forward to using Oddbins Events in the future to introduce our club members to a variety of wines from regions all over the world!’ - Meredith Estren, London Business school Wine Club President

The Proud Archivist ‘Feastival’ Sideways Movie Wine Tasting
Not your average tasting, to be sure! We teamed up with Dalston’s trendy venue ‘The Proud Archivist’ for the launch night of their Outside Cinema ‘Feastival’ season and what better way than a tailored movie and drinks pairing event?! Oddbins Events selected wines to accompany the key scenes in the movie including the iconic Bordeaux in a paper cup scene with a basket of onion rings. Guests watched the movie with interactive wine sheets, games and enjoyed everything from Californian fizz to oak-aged Sauvignon Blanc and of course, Pinot Noir, in a variety of incarnations

”It was an absolute pleasure to work with Oddbins Events on the Sideways Festival. They provided us with the creative license to explore a truly extraordinary evening that somehow fused the appreciation of classic film with the deprecation of wine snobbery and toasted cheese sandwiches & onion rings. If anybody knows how to break down the barriers between our audience of young creative's and the appreciation of wine, Angela does. Her passion and knowledge for the subject matter are an inspiration – and for that alone I simply couldn’t recommend working with Oddbins Events highly enough.” – Hector Proud, CEO of Proud Archivist

Last Word Suppers ‘Pop Up Dinner and Wine Pairing Night’
We joined forces with the culinary expertise of Hanna and Mike in a five course tasting dinner, in which we matched wines and wowed the palates of an intimate Tunbridge Wells dinner party in a wine shop. I kicked off with a glass of Maria Gomes sparkling from Portugal, our guests sipped and feasted on carefully matched regional courses; from South African Boboti and Swartland Rhône blends, Wild Boar Rilete with cherry-kissed Tuscan Morellino to Greek sweet Vin Doux, roasted peaches and homemade honeycomb. Our guests couldn’t resist taking home some of their discoveries after the event and we sent them laden and satisfied into the night.

“As a small company, it's really important that the people with whom we work really get what we're trying to achieve with our events. From the beginning, Oddbins Events helped us to create a bespoke package of fantastic wines for our tasting, and worked with us every step of the way to ensure that the tasting and supper club was a fantastic success. We'd be delighted to work with Oddbins Events again in the future” Hanna Sorrell – Managing Director at Last Word Suppers

UBS Banking Festive Wine and Food Pairing at the Stafford Cellars
We burrowed deep into the historic cellars of The Stafford in St James to showcase a line-up of alternative Christmas wines paired with a selection of canapés and tapas plates. Starting the evening with a glass of the rare and exquisite Champagne Drappier Quattuor NV, we tasted Fiano with smoked salmon roulade and navarin of lamb with Central Otago Pinot Noir before a finish of rich and raisined Rutherglen Muscat.

” ‘I just wanted to say thank you so much for Wednesday evening which went very well indeed. I have had lots of excellent feedback from both guests and employees. I thought you struck a great balance between education and fun which was well received by all present. I would definitely be interested in running a similar event next year’- Mark Goddard, Executive Director, UBS Wealth Management .” – Mark Goddard, Executive Director, UBS Wealth Management
