Have you ever dreamt of getting a wine you tried on holiday listed at your favourite wine merchant? Well, we might just be able to make that dream come true as we are offering you the opportunity to have your very own listing at Oddbins...

The Confession

We have a confession to make. We’re a little embarrassed about it, but we think that we owe you a sincere apology. Almost every day in our shops someone asks us if we have a wine they tried and fell in love with on holiday. Nine times out of ten we say no and are then asked if we can source the wine. And for years we, like most in the wine industry, have repeatedly ignored those requests.

The Defence

Our reason for dismissing those appeals in the past was that what tastes great on holiday doesn’t always conjure up the same magic when opened at home. Think about it, will the same rosé served perfectly chilled poolside, beneath a baking sun with fresh baguette and oozing camembert, when you haven’t a care in the world and there is more than 600 miles between you and work, taste as good if you pull it from the wine rack at home after a long and stressful day and open it with a takeaway as the horizontal rain rattles your windows? The answer is usually a resounding no. But then we had...

The Epiphany

Earlier this year an Oddbinite went on an envy-inducing holiday to Brazil, waxing lyrical on her return about an incredible semi-sweet sparkling Brazilian wine she’d tried in Rio. She chewed our ears off so incessantly about this wine that our Wine Buyer Ana decided to source a bottle, try it in front of her and burst her bubble by proving that she had been tricked by the “holiday effect”. Things didn’t quite go to plan though and we fell equally head over heels for Aurora, decided we had been completely wrong and promptly launched The Listing.

It turns out that you like this idea, rather a lot, as we have been veritably inundated with details of wines from Hawaii to Bulgaria, from Bali to Mallorca and from Turkey to Canada. So we have sipped and slurped our way through a large number of curiosities from around the globe and, we are gleefully happy to point you in the directions of our Listings, below. If you want to submit details of your favourite holiday wine, drop us a line here. To those who have submitted details and didn’t get to be a Listing, we’d love to hear from you again. Happy holidays, folks!

The Wine

  • Château Guilhem Prestige AOC Malepère Red 2011

Château Guilhem Prestige AOC Malepère Red 2011

Merlot (50%), Cabernet Franc (20%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Malbec (10%)
    Dry, Rich, Chunky
  • We love Hannah Leadbeater. Upon being asked to write a tasting note for the wine that she discovered and fell in love with on holiday four years ago, she gathered the same friends that she’s holidayed with and they sat around together, coming up with the following tasting note between them. Talk about team work! Here is that (very accurate, in our opinion) note on this Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend from the Languedoc: 'This wine is packed full of character. The aroma is of red berries, cinnamon and vanilla. These flavours combine on the tongue with a slight pepperiness and a rounded mouth-feel. It is medium-bodied, delivering a great taste whilst being fresh on the palate. It has a long finish, making it great for savouring on its own. It also goes well with red meats, stews or lashings of French cheese!'

  • Gentilini Robola 2012

    Gentilini Robola 2012

    Robola (100%)
    Citrusy, Floral, Chunky
  • Our first customer Listing *does a little jump of excitement*, Robola is a citrusy, floral and chunky white, chosen by Londoner Jessica Shinner on holiday on the idyllic Greek island of Kephalonia. To our eternal delight, Robola was actually featured in the bestselling book, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which became a film starring Nicolas Cage and Penelope Cruz. Whaddaya know!

  • Aurora Sparkling Moscato

    Aurora Sparkling Moscato

Moscato Bianco (50%), Moscato Giallo (50%)
    Fruity, Spicy
  • The wine that launched a thousand ships, Aurora is a beautiful semi-dry sparkler, discovered by an Oddbinite on holiday in Brazil. Its flavours of cherry blossom and honey aromas were so heavenly that they engendered an epiphany. It made us realise that, when hopeful customers ask us if we can source a wine they fell in love with on holiday, instead of saying no, like most in the wine industry (because wines don’t often taste as good in the howling wind in Bognor Regis as they do poolside in Provence), we would say YES, and The Listing was born. Taste the epiphany…
