The Oddbins Take

The name Primus is taken from Latin, meaning ‘first of its kind.’ This wine was a trailblazer in many ways; it was the first to wear boat shoes without socks, it was the first to notice that none of the contestants on the Apprentice have any business pedigree whatsoever but most importantly it was the first wine from Chile to compete with the top wines of the rest of the world.

A Carménère made from grapes sourced from 100-year-old pre-phylloxera vines, grown on deep volcanic soil, all of which contribute to a wine with outstanding concentration and fruit definition. The palate is rich with red fruit flavours of maraschino cherry and currants, underpinned by a savoury edge of rosemary, pepper and a touch of gun flint. The wine has an enticing mouthfeel; full-bodied with silky tannins. This wine may have another first to add to the list; the first Carménère to knock your socks off!
