Albert Bichot Brouilly 'Roche Rose' 2015
£14.00
Brouilly, one of the most well-known and geographically widespread vineyards in the Beaujolais region, is home to a smaller vineyard named 'Pisse-Vielle'. You'll be forgiven for thinking the inevitable here, as it does quite literally translate to how it sounds - 'Piss, old woman.' It's a ridiculous story and one you should definitely read, but one we also feel isn't suitable for a wine tasting note.

So, miscommunication can be amusing can't it? In the interest of clarity however, here we have a robust, structured Brouilly with well-integrated tannins. It has subtle aromas of wild cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry and a hint of spice. The palate is refreshing and fleshy with a lasting fruitiness on the finish. A great pairing with barbecued meats.
Now, 'Drink, old woman!'
The Bichot family date back to 1214. They settled in Burgundy in 1350 and by 1831, Bernard Bichot founded a wine trading business in Monthélie. His son Albert Bichot who was the first to bear name, gave the family new momentum in the late 19th century and settled in the centre of Beaune in 1912. The second Albert Bichot, who was born in 1900 was a pioneer of international commerce. He has travelled to the world of wine, which has already been recognised as one of the best, to wine lovers around the world. In the second half of the 20th century his four sons inherited his know-how. A new era of expansion began with the construction of a large age cellar, a new bottling centre and winery. Their wines are available in all of the world's continents.
After having gone off to discover the world, Albéric Bichot joined the company in the early 90s and took over its management in 1996. He is proud to bring people and their talents together over a common project. The challenges are numerous: growing in the Côte-d'Or vineyards, going to new markets, increasing the prestige and exposure of Burgundy wines and much more. Convinced that the quality of wine depends on the quality of the grapes, he has focused on developing the process that was undertaken in the 1980's. He secured supplies and began to expand their capacity in 2010. The company's vineyards now total 6 estates that cover Burgundy from north to south.
