We at Oddbins have a solution for this - just crack open a bottle of this liquid sunshine! You will immediately be teleported to a beach: juicy mango in hand and white flowers in your hair. Surrounding you are passion fruit trees heavy with ripe fruits, and the sun above you shines golden. Breathe in and get lost in a world of exotic wonders... This is the magic Anxo Martín brings!

Martín Códax winery was founded in 1986 in the Salnés Valley, in the north-western Spanish region of Rías Baixas. It was set up by 270 members with the idea of creating a winery “made by people for the people”. Sourcing grapes from 300 winemaking families in Spain, they mainly focus on the classic Rías Baixas white variety Albariño to make high-quality wines. As the winery has developed and grown, it has never stopped supporting its people, its land and its culture: practicing sustainable winemaking to care for the environment is a priority for the staff. Bodegas Martín Códax continues to bring a piece of Galician culture to more than 40 countries where their wines are enjoyed.

The appellation of Rías Baixas boasts great winemaking conditions as the vineyards are located close to the sea, with an Atlantic cool climate influence. The soils are therefore sandy and mineral, which contributes to a slight saltiness in the wines produced there. The region is mostly known for producing fresh white wines – Albariño being the predominant grape, but is often found blended with other native white varieties such as Treixadura and Loureira.

"Luciano Amoedo was one of the founders of the winery and is the ninth generation of a winemaking family. He graduated in Agricultural Engineering and specialised in viticulture and oenology. Today he is on the committee for the appellation.
Katia Álvarez joined Bodegas Martín Códax in 2005 as a winemaking manager. After specialising in agriculture and food industries, she became a winemaker graduate. Before starting with Martín Códax, Katia gained working experience in appellations all over the world, and is currently taking on many international speaking engagements on behalf of the winery. "

Hand-harvesting takes place in September and great care is taken to make sure the grapes are undamaged. After de-stemming a pneumatic press extracts the juice, then alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats. Before the wine is stabilised and bottled, it undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften acidity.

Anxo Martín displays intense aromas of exotic mango and passion fruit on the nose, which is complemented by sweeter hints of white flower nuances and fresh stone fruits. On the palate it is well-structured with a fresh but rich tropical character. Racing acidity comes through on a long-lasting finish. This Albariño blend is perfectly matched with grilled fish and seafood, or alternatively soft mild cheeses.
