Ben Schild Reserve Shiraz 2015

Ben Schild Shiraz is all about mixing subtlety and complexity. This special wine boasts dark plumb fruits and subtle wood spices, which sit alongside a slight sanguine waft and brief glimpses of cured biltong/jerky meat. A further expression of rich dark berry fruits combine with the classic Shiraz flavour of dark chocolate and coffee bean, all then pinned just enough by a super fine tannin structure. The lush fruit does not let up, but keeps rolling through in waves driving long through to the finish. 

The Schild family have journeyed from early German pioneers in 1866 to becoming one of the Barossa's oldest family-owned grape growers and most successful wineries.

In 1952 Edgar Schild took over the management of the then small Schild farm and vineyard in the southern Barossa Ranges of Narrow Road near Rowland Flat, on the passing of his father Ben Schild. Over the last 66 years Edgar expanded the vineyards holdings to 134ha of vines over diverse sites ranging from vineyard planted from 1847 to 2018.

Mick Schild, Ed’s son, is their head vigneron and manages the estate grown vineyards throughout the Southern Barossa Valley. They produce a range of premium fruit, specialising in Shiraz, Mataro, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In 2010 the Valley of Hope winery was built near the township of Lyndoch, under the watchful eye of their Chief Winemaker Scott Hazeldine and became the new home of Schild Estate. This is also home to their tasting room and patio where they greet customers from around the world.
