The story goes that in 1930 the director of the then famous Paris restaurant 'la Samaritaine de Luxe' challenged Victor Besserat to produce a champagne that could be drunk throughout a meal. Victor created his Cuvée des Moines, and duly won the bet, and the contract.

Crisp, delicate and fine bubbled but with real character, complexity and subtle depths of flavour, this is a champagne that not only stands up to food, but will step up to the mark for any fizz related challenge you care to throw at it. Bring it on!

Besserat de Bellefon was founded in 1843 by Edmond Besserat who, over the years, become recognised for his winemaking skills in crafting exceptional cuvées. He created supplies for the great hotels, restaurants and wine merchants of his day.

Future generations continued the business and in 1920, Edmond Besserats grandson of the same name married Yvonne de Méric de Bellefon, daughter of a noble Champagne family, and thus giving the House its family crest. It was at this point that the Besserat de Bellefon legend truly began.

Fast forward ten years to 1930. In a historic turning point for the winery, Victor Besserat, Edmonds brother, took up a challenge from the director of a distinguished Parisian restaurant to craft a delicate and lightly sparkling Champagne as the perfect accompaniment to an entire meal. And so the Cuvée des Moines range was born.

Besserat de Bellefon has always sought to meet the demanding requirements of its most experienced clients and it is with this approach to winemaking that has allowed them to expand their range of exquisite champagnes over the years.
