Many of you may know, that perpetually, Santa Claus summers in the Ribera Del Duero. Despite Mrs Claus' suggestions of Copenhagen and an 18-30 trip to Magaluf, he's just not interested. We're not sure what it is, maybe the exquisite cuisine or perhaps he's well into mariachi bands. On second thought, it's probably the wine. In fact, this wine was named by Bodegas La Horra, after Santa spent all summer, sunning himself and drinking this intense Tempranillo, until he realised, it was well into December. He exclaimed, "Cor, is it Crimbo already?" Yep, this wine will beguile the best of us, at any time of the year... Merry Corimbo everybody!
Agustín Santolaya is an Agricultural Engineer and former professor at the University of La Rioja and has a vast experience in viticulture and oenology. He started consulting for several Rioja wineries before joining Bodegas Roda (Rioja D.O.Ca.) in 1988, where he quickly became the MD. In 2008, he started the project at the winery La Horra, with Miriam Marchena and Carlos Diez. Their focus has been on older bush vines of Tempranillo, which gives the wines significant concentration. The wines are matured for 14 months in barrels of 50% French oak and 50% American. The wine produced, has intense aromas of red cherry and dark plum, balanced with oak characteristics of vanilla and black pepper.
