Bodegas Palacios Remondo 'Finca Dofí' Priorat 2015

During the mid-1900s, a boom in appetite for marzipan lead to great demand for almonds. Many farmers converted from other crops and planted almond trees, particularly in the beautiful region of Priorat. Rich farmers tore out their vines to grow almonds. Those more wistful, or simply less wealthy, sat by. Until years later a winemaker visited.

He was gob-smacked. Gnarled old vines. Intense grapes. A resulting wine of power and refinement. Suddenly, the poorer farmers found themselves with some of the most coveted wine land in the world. Their sentiment paid off. Hence the phrase to 'priorat-ize' - to decide what is most important. Not always the quick buck, it seems!

Bodegas Palacios Remondo is a family run business based in Algaro, Rioja Baja. Baja is the most Southernly of the Rioja vineyards and at an altitude of 550 meters, it enjoys the rich and salty soils to the River Ebro.

Alvaro Palacios, head winemaker at Palacios Remondo, has always set out to produce world-class wines by using low-yielding vines.

The Finca Dofi has a deep purple colour with a pink rim. It holds impressive power with bursts of black fruits followed by liqourice and herbs on the long and fresh finish. It is a well-balanced and refined wine.
