Charles Heidsieck Blanc De Blancs Champagne NV
£80.00
Some of us are destined to lead, whereas some of us are ordained to follow. There's nothing inherently wrong with following, you don't have to make any big decisions, you can quietly criticise the pack leader behind their back without your own performance coming under scrutiny and if you're a cyclist you can also get your big, aerodynamic bonce straight in the leader's slipstream making for a pleasant resistance free cycling experience. Yet, followers don't make history.
Charles Heidsieck was one of the very first Champagne Houses to demonstrate their passion for Chardonnay by producing a Blanc de Blancs in 1949. There is also evidence that the Maison had produced some mono-crus from the Côte des Blancs as early as 1906. This expertise with Chardonnay is well presented in this beautiful, modern Blanc de Blancs, characterised by aromas of white peach, candied citrus with notes of lime, honeysuckle and fresh hazelnuts giving way to subtle hints of mandarin brioche and apple strudel.
Be like Charles Heidsieck, blaze those trails!
Won a gold award at the Drinks Business Champagne Masters 2018.
Charles Heidsieck was founded in 1851 in Reims by the namesake of this prestigious Champagne house. The foundation of its modern fame rests on the unrivalled quality of its wines, which receive countless awards and accolades year after year. This success is attributable to the strength and depth of their winemaking team over the past three decades: Daniel Thibault, Regis Camus and Thierry Roset have between them been awarded 'Sparkling Winemaker of the Year' at the International Wine Challenge fifteen times. No other house has won more than twice. This winning philosophy has been inherited by the new chef de cave, Cyril Brun, who took over in 2015 following Thierry Roset's untimely death in October 2014.
In a world of large houses and luxury brands, it is reassuring that Charles Heidsieck, the smallest of all the grandes marques, is once again family owned and striving to build upon its already fabled reputation.
