Charles Heidsieck is one of the greatest frontiersmen in human history, like Jon Luc Picard or that chap in the Revenant who fell in love with a bear. Charles Heidsieck however, was not out in the unknown to hunt for gold nor ingratiate himself with the Romulans. No, Charles Heidsieck headed west to raise the prestige of Champagne in the USA. Thanks, to his charm and beguiling Champagne he seduced New York Society and even spread admiration of Champagne in the deep south; quite the compliment to his character and his Champagne given that, at the time, the citizens of the southern states surely lived off a diet of whiskey and xenophobia.
Sipping on a glass of this delicious Brut Reserve, it is easy to see how Charles was so popular. When you first taste the opulent combination of ripe apricot, white peach, apple blossom, plum pastry and delicate spice with perfectly balanced acidity and a persistent finish. Your estimation of the guest that brought this bottle, will invariably go through the roof.

Charles Heidsieck was founded in 1851 in Reims by the namesake of this prestigious Champagne house. The foundation of its modern fame rests on the unrivalled quality of its wines, which receive countless awards and accolades year after year. This success is attributable to the strength and depth of their winemaking team over the past three decades: Daniel Thibault, Regis Camus and Thierry Roset have between them been awarded 'Sparkling Winemaker of the Year' at the International Wine Challenge fifteen times. No other house has won more than twice. This winning philosophy has been inherited by the new chef de cave, Cyril Brun, who took over in 2015 following Thierry Roset's untimely death in October 2014.
In a world of large houses and luxury brands, it is reassuring that Charles Heidsieck, the smallest of all the grandes marques, is once again family owned and striving to build upon its already fabled reputation.
