Believe it or not, this Chateau was once owned by Benedictine monks. Shocking we know, it's almost as if not owning possessions and having no women in their lives opened up a bunch of alcohol making time. Thank goodness for those robe wearing gents, where would the wine world be without them? What, you reckon the Jedis would've stepped up and developed cane pruning? Don't make us laugh! Wines like Chateau Faizeau, with its deep intensity of black fruit flavours, are rooted in the Benedictine order and we're super grateful.

“Faizeau” is a diminutive of the word “Faize”, in reference to the Benedictine abbey of Faize, situated next to the property. This abbey possessed other vineyards in Pauillac and Saint Emilion. Built on the slopes of Calon hill, the highest point in the region of Libourne, the Château is one of the oldest estates of Bordeaux. It figured on the map drawn up by the engineer Belleyme in the 18th century. The vineyards of Château Faizeau are of the highest quality and boast a magnificent terroir and privileged location on a plateau orientated east and west, bathed in sunshine all day long. The 12 hectares extend in a single stretch over soil of stony “graves” and clay.

Château Faizeau shows a deep, brilliant ruby colour with fuchsia nuances. Its delicate nose is complex, spicy, with aromas of dark berries. On the palate, the wine is supple, round and well balanced with aromas of blackberry jam and vanilla.
