Chateau Pierbone is the 2nd wine to the high-regarded Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois, Chateau Peyrabon. “But, what is a 2nd wine?” we hear you enquire. At Oddbins, we think of 2nd wines to be like the Robin to the top wines Batman. Sure, Batman is flashy, spares no expense in his approach to fighting crime and garners all the headlines. But sometimes you don’t need to splash out on a Batman, some evenings you just want to disrupt a mid-sized video piracy syndicate and a former acrobat in a canary yellow jump suit is more than up to the challenge and comes at a significantly reduced expense... This metaphor is collapsing like the DC film Franchise.

Although grapes destined for the Pierbone wine may not come from the most coveted plots, it benefits from the excellent wine making associated with Ch Peyrabon. It tends to be ready to drink earlier and might not be as ripe, yet Chateau Pierbone is unquestionably an impeccable quality wine, it just costs a bit less. The perfect wine for a Tuesday night watching a legitimate copy of Dark Night Rises.
Château Peyrabon is a cru bourgeois property that is owned by Patrick Bernard, that dates back to the 18th century. In 1766, the castle Peyrabon already appears on the map of Belleyme, established in the by the cartographer to the King, Pierre de Belleyme. Its vineyards are divided between the appellations of Haut Médoc and Pauillac, producing 3 wines. Château La Fleur Peyrabon AOC Pauillac, Cru Bourgeois (one of the 7 of Pauillac), Château Peyrabon AOC Haut-Médoc, Cru Bourgeois and Château Pierbone AOC Haut-Médoc (second wine of Château Peyrabon).

Since it was bought by Bordeaux merchant Patrick Bernard in 1998, Peyrabon has benefited from significant investment to improve their vineyards and modernise their winemaking. The wine produced over the past 20 years indicate this investment has paid off; Chateau Peyrabon is know one of the top cru bourgeois on the left bank of Bordeaux.
