Château Unang Rosé 2015

A cool glass of rosé is fast becoming the go-to summer wine and this pale coloured drop from Château Unang shows us exactly why the pink is so popular!

Strawberry aromas lead on the nose and are accompanied by notes of lychee. The palate offers thirst-quenching citrus flavours of grapefruit and lemon, quickly followed by goosberry. And with a minerality on the finish, this refreshing drop of rosé is perfect for sharing during those long summer evenings in the garden.

Originally from Scotland, James and Joanna King bought the Unang vineyards in 2001 and have been living at the Chateau creating elegant fine wines since 2003.

James, the head winemaker, and Joanna, marketing, work on a philosophy of maintaining both quality and care when it comes to their vineyards, wines and the wider environment. With a guarded use of technology, they take a hands on approach using traditional methods in their production in order to achieve simplicity and balance.

Chateau Unang is a family enterprise through to the core. They even employ their four dogs to guard the vineyards from trespassing wild boar, who would otherwise eat all the delicious grapes that they grow!

Located in a quiet corner of Provence, France, the beautiful family-run vineyard overlooks the plateau of Vaucluse and Venasque, bordered by the Nesque. When the Kings first bought Unang, there were 20 Ha of vines in a variety of parcels, and in varying degrees of health. 6 Ha of vines were taken out due to being poorly situated and/or diseased, and a new cellar was built. James began to replant vines in 2003.

The white varietals grow in the coolest zone of the vineyard, farthest down the hillside, whereas the red grapes inhabit the remaining space up the slopes. They produce high-altitude wines of freshness, vigor and minerality whilst also offering elegance and depth.

All grapes are hand-harvested at the vineyard, now certified as organic. Their whites since 2012, and their red and roses since 2013.
