Imagine, if you will, a beautiful kitchen garden, boasting a bustling array of fat and healthy herbs, fruit and vegetables, nestling next to a 17th century French manor house. You’re up with the birds and you wander outside for a stroll and spy, out of the corner of your eye, that the asparagus look ready for picking. You do, and you bite the tip off, still glistening with the morning dew and crunch it greedily between your teeth. Yeah, that’s a bit like what this wine is like.

There is a strength of character and determination about Giesen brothers Theo, Alex and Marcel who, despite the naysayers, made the bold leap to make wine in Marlborough in 1981. Over the last 30 years they have laid deep roots in the region, developing their own vineyards and, quite simply, making wines that people want to drink. It is this staunch approach to consistency, with their passion always driving excellence that has enabled them to become one of the region’s eminent producers.

They say: ‘We set out to create wines which people enjoy drinking and our diverse and outstanding vineyard sites, leading viticultural practices and consistent winemaking have allowed us to deliver a remarkably refreshing, unfailingly consistent, eminently drinkable wine.’

The fruit for Chimney Creek is selected from earlier ripening vineyards with good flavour development. This is a distinctive style which displays the crisper, green and lively components that are characteristic of Marlborough.
