Churchills are new kids on the block when it comes to Port houses. They've been making Port for only around 30 years now but they've certainly managed to make a name for themselves. This crusted port is a blend of two ports from different years which has been aged in oak for two to three years before bottling. The port has been aging in the bottle since 2005 so it's ready to drink now. This method of port production means that we get to taste the best bits from two years of hard work all in a glass. That's a lot of hard work for a lovely rich glass of ruby port. It's unfiltered though, so don't forget to decant!

When it opened in 1981, Churchill’s was the first British Port wine company to establish for 50 years. The company was founded by John Graham who named the company after his wife Caroline Churchill. All of Churchill's ports are produced in the Cima Corgo sub-region of Douro, at the Quinta da Gricha winery. The wines are aged in traditional granite tanks, which date back to 1852.

A crusted port is a blend of two different vintages, aged in oak barrels for two to three years before being aged in the bottle, unfiltered, for at least three years. This particular crusted port was bottled in 2005. It is a field blend of lots of indigenous Portuguese grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.

This port has been aged in the bottle since 2005 and it is showing signs of aging on the palate. It is rich, ruby red in colour with a nose of red and black berries. That fruit concentration follows through to the palate along with sweet spices and a rich mouth-feel.
