Our Buyer Ana Sapungiu described the output of this forward-looking Port house as "stunning" and she is not alone in applying such warm approval. It seems everyone is giving similar kudos to Churchill's bottling and we are positive that you’ll join the Fan Club after trying their Traditional LBV. Traditional in this case is a byword for unfiltered, which means that it has the traditional sediment that we personally love and means you get to enjoy the decanting ritual of real vintage port. It is rich, intense and juicy… get the decanter ready.
Compared to other Port Wine shippers, most of which were established around the turn of the 18th-19th centuries, Churchill’s history is short. Johnny Graham founded Churchill’s (named after his wife’s maiden name) in 1981, making it the first British port company to be established in fifty years. Churchill's Late Bottled Vintage Port is produced from the same Quintas or Estates that provide grapes for Churchill’s declared Vintage Ports only sourced from grade A vineyards. Following the manual harvest and initial winemaking, the young fortified wines are carefully selected and blended. This blend is then matured in large oak vats for four years during which time it sheds its harsh tannins without losing its full body and rich fruit flavours. The word “traditional” means that it is bottled without any filtration or refrigeration; Churchill’s LBV can continue developing in the bottle. At purchase it is ready for immediate drinking, but alternatively, it may be cellared a few more years to acquire some more pronounced vintage port characteristics.
