Cigarra Rosé 2016

Casa Santos Lima seem to have the Midas touch. We have half a mind to take all our jewellery over there and see if they can turn it all a shimmering gold. This is why we are stocking as many of their wines as possible, including the best-selling Quinta de Bons Ventos.

This rosé wine has a beguiling, deep pink hue that, on the palate, reveals intense aromas of strawberries and raspberries, with excellent structure and balanced, refreshing acidity. All for £7.

This wine hails from the Lisboa region, northwest of Lisbon, which was until recently known as Estremadura. Hugging the Atlantic coast and with hills and mountains further inland, the region offers plenty of cooler, vine-friendly habitats.

For the Lisboa region as a whole, the main traditional white varieties are Arinto, Fernão Pires, Malvasia, Seara-Nova and Vital, and for reds Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Castelão, Tinta Miúda, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Trincadeira, but many other national and foreign grapes are now used for VR wines and certain DOC wines.

Made from 70% Castelão and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes are de-stemmed and pressed, with exclusive use of skin contact maceration and free run juice. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, at 16 ºC - 18 ºC.

Bright pink in colour, it has intense aromas of strawberries and raspberries, with excellent structure and balanced, refreshing acidity.
