It's wines like this elegant, intense, blackberry-infused Ribero del Duero, that make selling wine such an absolute pleasure. Because after the bottle is despatched and we have parted company, you, dear customer, can revel in its joys at your leisure, whilst we sit back, have a cup of tea and think happily, "our work here is done now".

How are we so sure? Because we've yet to pour this red out and witness anything but pure pleasure. Such is its rich, intense decadent appeal. With beautiful notes of top quality oak and deep dark fruit this is a brooding beauty.

The Oxford Companion to Wine calls Cillar de Silos a “leading challenger” to the title of maker of the very finest wines of Ribera del Duero. Grandfather Amalio Aragón founded Cillar de Silos with his sons Jesús, Roberto and Óscar. Now the next generation is in charge. Roberto Aragón is the General Manager, responsible for the business side of the company. Younger brother Óscar Aragón trained to become the now Head Winemaker and Viticulturist of Cillar de Silos. Their sister Amelia Aragón travels around the world as the Export Manager whilst simultaneously studying for the Master of Wine degree.

The Aragón family has made wine for personal consumption for as long as records go, but in the 1970s Amalio Aragón started to systematically acquire top vineyard sites in Ribera del Duero. The area had started to emerge as the new area for Tempranillo, and in 1982, the new classification of Ribera del Duero Denominación de Origen (DO) was created. Within the Ribera, vineyards around the village of Quintana del Pidio seemed particularly promising for fine wine production, and that is precisely where Amalio Aragón expanded his vineyards. 1995 was the first vintage of Cillar de Silos, and it has gained reputation ever since.
