De Martino Legado Carmenere 2015

Legado is Spanish for legacy, something handed down by an ancestor or a predecessor. De Martino have got this red wine spot on, but questions need to be asked about the name.

One taste and nobody in their right mind would ever want to give it away to a member of a younger generation, however much you love them. They just wouldn't appreciate something this elegant, sophisticated, would they? Nope, we think that De Martino Stockpile Selfishly Carménére would be a far more fitting name.

After working over 350 vineyards in their history, De Martino have selected the most prestigious and innovative vineyards for their Legado range. These wines express the vineyards purity and elegance and are made with wild yeast and aged in old French barrels for 12 months. No eggs or dairy were used.

De Martino is one of the oldest family estates in Chile and were the first to bottle a Carménère. Marcelo Retamal, chosen as Chilean Winemaker of the Decade in 2009, takes grapes from the alluvial terraces of the Maipo Valley to produce this pure Carménère.

A glorious purplish colour, packed with spicy and earth depth, this red has soft and moreish fruit. Its refreshing acidity makes it a perfect food wine that will age beautifully, if you have the patience.
