Well well well. We really do have something to shout about here. Nuevo Mundo is, *drumroll, please*, the very first carbon neutral wine in South America. In a continent where loggers are tearing up forests at a rate of knots, it is inspiring to see a winery shining a green light for Chile. Hats off. And bottoms up, too, because this is one hell of a bargain at £8.50. It’s ripe and plummy, as you’d expect from a Carmenere, but hangs onto a freshness and elegance that keeps it balanced and interesting.
Nuevo Mundo provide an excellent selection of organic wines and produce the first carbon neutral wines in the South American region. The vines are produced by the De Martino family in the old-style Maipo Valley, an award winning Winery in Chile. It is one of the oldest estates in Chile, in existence since 1934. De Martino’s goal is to create elegant wines that are true to their terroir.
