We love a Tokaji here at Oddbins. Why's it late though? Is it in a Lewis Carroll style nightmare, desperately trying to make a date with a god awful, Jonny Depp performance. Seriously, why is it that he can put on some make-up and assume a slightly effected character and we're all supposed to compare him to Laurence Olivier. Thankfully that's not why Disznókő is called "late." The grapes are harvested later in the year so they become sweeter and more concentrated, giving the wine, expressive notes of marmalade and apricot. So, next time you see a tardy white rabbit, tell him to take his time, he'll probably be better off for it.

There have been Furmint grapes planted in the Disznókő vineyards since 1732 and has been part of the World Heritage Site of Tokaji since 2002. The Disznókő vineyards have always been sought-after due to their supreme soil quality and aspect. Owned by influential aristocratic families and then nationalised, since 1992 the estate has been under the leadership of AXA Millésimes. With its know-how and experience in Aszú winemaking, Disznókő is recognized today as being in the forefront of the renaissance of truly great Tokaji wines. Head winemaker, László Mészáros focuses on a lighter, fresher expression of Tokaji and this is very apparent in the Late Harvest wine. The wine is fairly rich with a strong botrytis character, while still maintaining a brightness of acidity and an elegant citrus finish.
