Dourthe Grands Terroirs Blanc 2013
£8.50
The Grands Terroirs label was launched by Dourthe (which dates back to 1840) and is one of the top selling Bordeaux in France – and at great value. It brings together the most representative Bordeaux appellations and showcases their typical characteristics. Dourthe is passionate about terroir and producing authentic wines according to sustainable viticulture. Grands Terroirs wines are the result of a strict selection procedure carried out by the oenologists – only the most interesting wines, with the best structure and personality true to the specific appellation, are chosen for the range. The finished blends are often complex and soft with clear fruit profiles and unique character. Dourthe takes care in setting up long-term partnerships with winegrowing estates to ensure continuity in the style of their wines.
The Bordeaux appellation benefits from a moderate climate. Since the area is considerably large, it boasts various different soils which make it possible to cultivate numerous varieties and develop wines which showcase their best possible individual characteristics.
Thomas Drouineau has been the head of the winemaking team at Dourthe for nearly 15 years. His careful expertise and very high standards in both vineyard and winery are known and respected throughout Bordeaux. Thomas works closely with the growers to make sure the supply of grapes are of the best possible quality. He also oversees the careful selection procedure of Grands Terroirs.
Weight on the palate is owed to traditional viticulture from vineyards in the Entre-Deux-Mers, and Gironde’s gravel soil brings a nice minerality to the wine. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks with temperature control, and the wine is aged on the less for several months.
This Bordeaux white boasts an intensely aromatic bouquet of vibrant citrus fruits and small white flowers. A fresh fruit character is complemented by Sauvignon Blanc’s classic grassy notes and balanced acidity, making it pleasantly harmonious. Dourthe Grand Terroirs Blanc is delicious on its own as an aperitif, or with white meat salads such as chicken or seafood.
