On Friedrich Nietzsche’s down time, from claiming ‘God is dead’ and growing a gravity defying moustache, he revamped the philosophy of ‘eternal recurrence’ that this wine is named for. This is the philosophy that if the universe is infinite (that the boffins of the galaxy say it is) there must be an infinite number of worlds. With you living on them, doing exactly the same thing. Bloomin’ imposters ay? A slightly disturbing thought, yet if it means you’re infinitely drinking this wine, you may just nod your head and accept it. With beautiful dark fruit and perfumed aromatics, it is a wine you can drink multiple times and in multiple places, all at once.

This modern and eccentric winery is located in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. It looks a bit like a cross between Stonehenge and an alien spacecraft. Small and circular, functional, with concrete eggs and oak casks dotted around the glass inner walls. Very modern in structure yet embracing the traditional winemaking practices of old. Even the vines surrounding the winery are planted in circular formation.

The Grapes are handpicked from a single vineyard plot in Anchoris Tupungato. Winemaker, Matias Micheilini, does everything to control yield size and thus achieve high concentration in the Bonarada grapes. Micheilini claims Eterno Retorno is a wine "made without fear, exactly as we would have made it if we knew we would be forced to repeat it infinite times throughout eternity...!” Right on!
