Do you remember in the 70s (probably not, you're probably a spritely young gent/madam) when Brits used to think of Chianti as the wine equivalent of ABBA: Sure, you know it and you're going to tap your feet to the beat, you might even recite a couple of lyrics of Dancing Queen but you don't really want your friends to see. Chianti came in those big round bottles, that for some reason had been whickered all-round the base and every Italian restaurant in the country used them as Candle holders. Thank the Italian heavens that those days are over. Wines like this are some of the finest to come out of Tuscany, with concentrated notes of sour cherry and tomato leaf, combined with a surprising age ability, Chianti is quickly becoming the wine equivalent of Led Zeppelin; we got a 'Whole Lotta Love'!

Fattoria di Bagnolo, an historical, agricultural estate of the Bartolini Baldelli family, is situated on the Impruneta hills around Florence, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view over the Chianti countryside. Dating back to 1419, when this estate was called "Al Fonte", it belonged to Machiavelli from 1458 to 1585. Around 1800, Bartolommeo Bartolini Baldelli who fell in love with the beauty of the landscape, bough the estate as a Summer holiday home. Today, Fattoria di Bagnolo is run by Marco Bartolini Baldelli, who is passionately devoted to viticulture and olive growing, achieving excellent results, recognised for several years by the most prestigious food and wine guides and by enthusiasts who are looking for niche products. The Fattoria Bagnolo Chianti Colli Fiorentini Riserva spends 12 months in French oak, followed by 3 months in stainless steel, giving the wine a remarkable structure and a surprisingly long life; this wine will be at its best after 10-15 years of bottle aging.
