Fonseca Quinta do Panascal Vintage Port 2004
£30.00
Port's a funny business, for example, when serving Vintage Port, the decanter should be placed on the right side of the host and then passed round the table clockwise. Why? Tradition my good man! That way, if the Baron of Norfolk pays you a terrible disservice; perhaps commenting on the regularity your wife frequents the theatre, your sword arm is free to whip out your rapier and seek retribution! Thankfully, Port is becoming much less anachronistic, wines like this are made from the best vineyards but mature much earlier than traditional Vintage Port, delivering a much more approachable style, at a more affordable price point, for you modern consumers. No duels, just delicious wine.
Fonseca belongs in the top league of vintage port houses. Few port produces have maintained such consistent quality and definition of house style from vintage to vintage. Over the years, Fonseca's determination to preserve and refine its distinctive house style has drawn it ever closer to the vineyard. The last three decades of the 20th century saw it invest in vineyard ownership and take a leading role in vineyard renovation in the Douro Valley. Fonseca's three estates, Panascal, Cruzeiro and Santo António, with their distinctive terroirs, have a key role in defining the unmistakable character of the firm's wines. Since its acquisition by the company in 1978, Quinta do Panascal has been the object of major investment intended, not only to bring new life to the vineyard, but to ensure that the estate produces outstanding wines which today form the backbone of the Fonseca Vintage Port blend. The wines of Quinta do Panascal are rich, with voluptuous fruitiness, mouth filling density and a velvety texture.
