Fontein Ridge Pinotage Shiraz 2015

Modern winemakers often talk about having innovative ideas and that's because they know how important it is to bring new and fresh wines to you!

Take this South African Pinotage and Shiraz blend for example. They call it 'Fontein Ridge' because it contains fountains of juicy tannins and ripe fruit flavours with hints of vanilla and chocolate on the nose. It's almost unbelievable how they get so much into such a small bottle!

Though, if they wanted to take it one step further we wouldn't complain if they build an actual fountain of wine. Now THAT's what we'd call innovation...

The Fontein Ridge range is made by Overhex Wines International in South Africa's Western Cape. Willie Malan has been a winemaker at Overhex since 2004 and has achieved several international and national awards for his wines over the years. His winemaking experience started from an early age having helped his father with harvests when he was younger. Willie completed his studies in Elsenberg and has since completed vintages in both France and Germany.

Grapes for the Fontein Ridge Pinotage Shiraz are sourced from vineyards in Worcester and Breedekloof. The fruit is harvested by machine prior to being cold soaked for two days before traditional skin fermentation takes place. The grapes are then fermented with yeast for 10 days before undergoing malolactic fermentation and being stored in stainless steel tanks.

This red wine has a deep purple appearance with aromas of ripe fruits with a hint of spice and dark chocolate. Intense fruit flavours are found on the palate which fill the mouth with juicy tannins, ripe dark fruits and hints of vanilla.
