Greywacke Chardonnay 2018

This crisp, dry white wine is a bit like your Grandma. She's generally got something tasty in the oven making the house smell like baked apples, toasted hazelnuts, fig, brioche, pink grapefruit and...meadow hay? (reign it in a bit Mrs. Cropley!)

She's a classy lady, perhaps a little nutty and has plenty of rich life experiences to share but once you get her going she can go on and on and, well, you get the idea. Just like Grandma's stories, Greywacke Chardonnay has a palate that just keeps going.

Greywacke is the label of Marlborough pioneer winemaker Kevin Judd. Born in England, Judd was raised in Australia where he went on to study winemaking at Roseworthy College. In 1983 he joined Selaks Wines having moved to New Zealand and soon after became the founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay winery. 2009 saw the establishment of Judds Greywacke label, which is named after New Zealand’s prolific bedrock. Alongside his winemaking, Judd has developed a second career in photography and his work has featured in countless publications along with his own books.

The fruit used for the Greywacke range is sourced from mature vineyards within the central Wairau Plains and the Southern Valleys. The Sutherland family own a number of these vineyards whilst selected sites from the sub-regions provide parcels of grapes for these wines.
