The ‘official’ line is that FMC stands for Forrester Meinert Chenin but it’s not the true derivation of this Acronym, like how we’re all expected to believe POTUS stands for President of the United States, when of course it actually means Pineapple Ordained to Undermine Senators… Those wily Pineapples!

No, share a couple of glasses with Ken Forrester and he’ll admit to you the real meaning is F****** Magic Chenin! An appropriate name is ever there was one, for Ken set out to make a Chenin from Swartland that could compete with the best whites of the world. When taking in his flagship wine, seductive and sophisticated, layered with candied lemon, dried apricot, vanilla, with a touch of honey and spice, surely everyone can agree he’s done that. Magic!
Ken Forrester began his career in the hotel industry back in 1977, later specialising in the restaurant trade before he and his wife set their hearts on a historic vineyard in Stellenbosch. Originally granted as Zandberg in 1689, the beautiful farm, complete with historic Cape Dutch homestead built in 1694, had been standing vacant and derelict until the Forrester’s took it on.

Restoration of the 17th century homestead began in 1993, with Ken’s wife Teresa largely managing the house while Ken worked at replanting the vines to develop wines of quality. The first wines under the Ken Forrester label were produced in 1994, soon the award-winning wines stood at the forefront of the Chenin Blanc revival, earning Ken the nickname ‘Mr Chenin’. The grapes for these wines are sourced from vineyards in the cool Helderberg region of Stellenbosch.
