Think South Africa and you probably think BIG. It's all about scale. The animals are big. The mountains are big. But while everything might be big, big isn't everything. Actually, Ken was a bit fed up of everything being so huge. More isn't always better.
Take pear drops for example. One of the lovely flavours in this belting little Chenin. Now, the largest pear drop in the world is in Lancashire, in Stockley's Sweets near Oswaldtwistle. But what use is a pear drop you can't actually get in your mouth? One small sip of this wine will be far more satisfying. And won't break your jaw! Small is beautiful, as Ken knows.
Ken Forrester has a very special relationship with the Chenin Blanc grape. The first wines under the Ken Forrester label were produced in 1994, soon the award winning wines stood at the forefront of the Chenin Blanc revival, earning Ken the nickname 'Mr Chenin'. The grapes for these wines are sourced from vineyards in the cool Helderberg region of Stellenbosch.
