A fiftieth birthday, a twentieth wedding anniversary, the birth of a child - all of these are landmark occasions which may beg the company of something extraordinary. Krug Champagnes will undoubtedly bring the requisite opulence to the occasion, but you don't have to wait until you're exhaustedly feeding a new born at 4am.

Krug Rosé is gorgeously delicate with aromas of puff pastry and a complex palate of citrus and spice with a touch of honey, and it becomes an occasion in itself, like a surprise visit from a missed and much-loved friend.

So bring the party to the Krug, celebrate thirteen weeks since your first date, or your 3.7th wedding anniversary, or the birth of somebody else's child, and maybe call that friend over. You won't regret it.

Born in 1800 in Mainz, Germany, Joseph Krug worked as a commercial traveller and finally settled in Paris in 1834. He took work with Jacquesson, the top Champagne house of the day, and soon became a partner also marrying into the dynasty. At 42, he founded Krug et Compagnie with the backing of Hippolyte de Vivès, a well-regarded merchant from Reims, and began to build a large reserve of wines from distinctive plots of land, with a view to blending deluxe cuvée Champagne from one year to the next without being beholden to climate treachery.

Subsequent generations continued to develop Joseph's vision, and in the 1970s, brothers Henri and Remy Krug began to develop a Krug style rosé from Pinot Noir grapes. Their father Paul gave it his blessing upon blind tasting it in 1983 and it went into commercial production shortly afterwards.

Krug Rosé is elegant, with a floral nose giving aromas of puff pastry and red berries. The palate gains delicacy from very fine bubbles and offers hints of honey, citrus and spice. Its subtle range of flavours partner it with a range of fine food, including foie gras, venison and white meat.
