Hit Las Vegas based band the Killers famously once announced "it was only a kiss, it was only a kiss!" Understating such an intimate act might seem strange to some, then again, they went on to claim they were "turning saints into the sea," so can we really believe a word that comes out of Brandon Flowers mouth? We think kisses are significant; a kiss inspired a Gustav Klimt masterpiece, Humphrey Bogart did that absolute corker of a smooch in Casablanca, although apparently his breath stank of fags.
Most significantly, however, The Kiss is the name of Natasha Mooney's wonderful Aussie Chardonnay. Nectarine, peach and blood orange fruit flavours backed up with almond, oatmeal and hazelnut derived from the French oak barriques. A minerality is evident throughout the palate whilst still maintaining an opulent creaminess from the lees stirring. The mid palate generosity is pulled into line with a fresh lime acid finish. It's as if Gustav Klimt gave you a big old lip smacker!
Natasha says of La Bise, “I cover a lot of ground working as a consultant winemaker and that enables me to come across rare parcels of fruit and wine that are unique, so I created La Bise to showcase them and give them their own sense of place. I like to think I gave these parcels of fruit the kiss of life by finding them and releasing them for you to drink.” The Kiss Chardonnay comes from three select vineyards within the higher altitude areas of the Mount Lofty Ranges. Natasha Mooney wanted the fruit flavours to shine through so the wine is not oak dominated, rather fruit first with some oak flavours.
