Bodegas La Purísima was founded in in 1946 by a forward-thinking group of farmers who recognised the potential of their land to produce better quality wines. Their sustained efforts led to the creation of the coveted' Denomination Origin' of Yecla in 1975.

Quite some achievement - and the bodegas has gone from strength to strength, these days creating confident wines such as La Purisma Syrah. A deep ruby in colour, with intense flavours of violets and flourishes of spicy black fruit. Farmers, we thank you.

"Bodegas La Purísima was founded in 1946 by several farmers who joined forces in order to improve the quality of Yecla wines. Their determination and desire to produce great wines finally led, in 1975, to their receiving the Denomination Origin title. This was a huge achievement for these farmers who, limited by the border of the municipality, registered the Yecla Denomination of Origin No. 27 in line with the prestigious French AOCs.
At the beginning of the 1990s the wine cellar produced one of its best wines, the Iglesia Vieja Crianza, a wine which opened the door to other great wines. Iglesia Vieja Crianza was one of the first wines of the region to be included in the wine lists of leading restaurateurs in Murcia.
"

Working with the best vines in Yecla, they make wines with a commitment to quality, innovation and tradition. For this they have been recognised by way of numerous international awards and the trust of thousands of customers around the world. With a production capacity of nine million litres that accounts for 60% of the Denomination of Origin of Yecla, Bodegas La Purísima responds to the challenge of growing demand from the international market.

Winemaker Pedro Azorin´s wine roots go back to his great-great grandfather´s vineyards in Yecla, where his family was one of the founders of Bodegas La Purisima. He studied oenology in Jumilla and has a Master in Viticulture, Oenology and Wine Marketing from the International Social Science Council and a Degree Level 2 with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. Today, he is an active member at the Qualification Committee for the DO Yecla and at the Olive Oil Tasting Panel Association in Murcia. Pedro started to work at Bodegas La Purísima in 1999 as an Assistant to the Technical Director and since 2002 is its Head Winemaker. He says ‘I took my first steps among Monastrell vineyards where my parents and grandparents taught me everything about this grape. Today, I am thrilled to be making wines at La Purísima that truly honour my ancestors’.

The grapes come from 15 year old vines and are harvested at night, by machine. The grapes undergo cold maceration for two days and are then fermented in tanks for five days.

A ruby red colour with purple overtones, this wine has aromas of blue flowers, followed up by an intense palate of blue flowers, violets and lilies with touches of black fruit and spicy nuances. On the palate it is smooth with a pleasing sensation turning to sweetness on the finish and is the ideal companion for a spicy paella.
