Laphroaig Select is a special, full bodied whisky that owes its natural colouring and flavours to a selection of American and European casks; namely Oloroso Sherry Butts, Straight American White Oak (non-bourbon filled), PX Seasoned Hogsheads, Quarter Casks and, finally, first fill Bourbon Casks. This varied maturation process gives the whisky an initial sweetness, promptly followed by classic dry, peaty and ashy flavours with a delightfully rich finish, owing to the rich fruits of the European casks.
The history of Laphroaig remains ambiguous as, unfortunately, much of its story has been lost over time. Nevertheless, the Islay distillery remains true to the origins that it knows and, with a determined group of people, they have been making superb whiskies since roughly 1815.
